Recommended Books

In Good and Generous Faith: Christian Responses to Religious Pluralism , Kenneth Cracknell, Peterborough: Epworth, 2005,  £17.99
This is a book for those who fear that they are being unfaithful to Jesus Christ by making friends with people of other faiths. Cracknell, a former tutor at Wesley House, Cambridge, demonstrates that the Bible contains much that supports a positive attitude to other faiths and explores how Christians can live and tell the gospel in a multi faith society.

Paths of FaithPaths of Faith. Ed. Harris, Elizabeth, Leicester, Christians Aware, 2002
This is an expanded version of a series on other faiths published in the Methodist Recorder in 1998. It covers Baha'is, Buddhists, Hindus, Jains, Jews, Muslims, the New Age Movement, Sikhs and Zoroastrians. An excellent resource for groups especially if combined with 'The Life We Share'.

Listening to People of Other Faiths , Claire Disbrey, Oxford, The Bible Reading Fellowship, 2004, £7.99
This is another book for those who are not yet convinced of the need to listen to people of other faiths. The first section maps the changing face of religion in Britain. The second contains structured conversations with people from six faiths. The last is called, 'Talking about Jesus in the world Today'. The author is convinced that Christians have much to give in a world of many faiths, but also much to learn.  This an accessible book to read and pass on to others.

Celebrating Difference, Staying Faithful: How to Live in a Multi-Faith World ,  Andrew Wingate, 2005, London: Darton, Longman and Todd, £12.95
This book demonstrates that Christians who actively engage with the multi-faith reality of Britain remain faithful to God and full of faith. It is directed mainly but not exclusively towards Christians who want to act generously in a world of many faiths but seek theological and practical guidance from one who has already trod such a path. Andrew Wingate is an excellent guide, drawing on over three decades of experience in Britain and South Asia, particularly India. His style is conversational, and richly illustrated with case studies and personal experience. And the amount of ground he covers is vast.

All of these are published by Christians Aware (2 Saxby Street, Leicester LE2 0ND; www.christiansaware.co.uk). Beautifully illustrated each helps Christians to 'meet' people of the faith concerned.
